Financial Assistance for Membership Fees
Options To Help Cover Fees
It's our goal to never turn away a young person because they cannot
afford the membership fee. And there are several ways to help families
who may need financial assistance.
Assistance Options
First, begin by asking the unit leader if there is any financial assistance available through the
unit. All Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews go
through their own program planning and budget process each year. As
part of the process, they determine their fundraising needs for the
year and families have an opportunity to participate and pay for the membership fees.
Often, these units participate in our council's annual fall popcorn sale as
their fund raiser. All units are also strongly encouraged to to set
aside some funds within their unit to be able to support the families
local to them who may ask for financial help.
Another option for families needing financial assistance is to participate in the annual
fall Northern Star Council popcorn sale. If your unit does not already
participate in the popcorn sale, an individual family can
participate. This is a GREAT way for young people to earn money to pay for Scouting, like their annual membership
fees, uniforms and summer camp. More information
on the annual fall popcorn sale can be found at:

Lastly, try contacting your local Scouting representative. We have a very simple process available
to apply for financial assistance.
